Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied speculation that he has moved to sign Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato and Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.

The Gunners were reported to have had an €8m bid for Pato knocked back by Corinthians yesterday, while they were also said to be close to agreeing to take Morata on loan from Real Madrid from January, rivalling Tottenham Hotspur for the Spaniard.

But Wenger, who very publicly missed out on strikers Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez in the summer, has moved to deny the reports.

Asked about whether Arsenal had indeed bid for Pato, Wenger simply replied via his club's official site: "No."

And on Morata, Wenger commented: "No. There is no truth in that. That is all I can say, I have not been in touch with them [Real Madrid]."

It remains to be seen if Wenger will move to sign another striker in the upcoming winter window, with the majority of the goals burden now on Frenchman Olivier Giroud and concerns about what might happen if he succumbed to injury.
