Everton sent a talent spotter to watch Standard Liege striker Michy Batshuayi in action last week, as the Toffees step up their interest in the Jupiler League's top scorer.

Batshuayi has been in superb form for Standard this term, turning in performances which have in turn met with plaudits and admiration from a number of clubs.

One such side is Arsenal, the English club have paid close attention to Batshuayi's development. Indeed, such an open secret is the Gunners' interest in the 20-year-old that Standard's president has warned them off an approach in the January window.

Everton too are now in the race according to Het Nieuwsblad, with the Toffees having one eye towards an eventual Chelsea return for loanee Romelu Lukaku next summer.

Batshuayi has found the back of the net 14 times in 21 games for Standard so far this term, his latest coming on 27th December in a 5-1 romp over KV Kortrijk.

Standard currently sit top of the 16-team Belgian top flight, helped in no small part by Batshuayi's lethal touch in front of goal.

The Belgium Under-21 international is under contract at the Jupiler League giants until the summer of 2018.
