Borussia Monchengladbach have taken a strong step towards winning the race for in-demand Auxerre Paul-Georges Ntep.

The talented goal-getter has been linked with a whole host of clubs in recent months, with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain both taking the step of sounding out Auxerre about Ntep.

But according to France Football, Bundesliga outfit Gladbach have made concrete moves for the France Under-21 international which may well result in him landing at Borussia-Park this month.

Gladbach are not far off reaching an agreement with Auxerre for Ntep, with the Ligue 2 club looking for a fee of around €8m.

That should not be too much of a stretch for Gladbach, who are all set to sell goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to Barcelona, where he will replace Victor Valdes for 2014/15.

However, there remains the possibility that such concrete moves in the race for Ntep will flush out his other suitors and pressure them into making a rival offer.

The 21-year-old has scored six goals in 16 Ligue 2 games for Auxerre so far this season, while in Under-21 European Championship qualifying he has bagged five goals in five appearances for France's Under-21s.
