Manchester United manager David Moyes has promised more investment on the scale that saw Juan Mata arrive at Old Trafford, after pulling off a transfer he himself did not deem possible last summer.

At £37.1m, Mata has become Manchester United's record signing this month, arriving from Chelsea to eclipse the transfer fee paid to Tottenham Hotspur for Dimitar Berbatov.

The Spaniard will already have his pressures to deal with, given the price tag and Manchester United's current situation. But Moyes is ready to take some of the pressure off his own head thanks to a seemingly big transfer kitty.

It forms part of his two-pronged approach off the field, as the Scot told a press conference held for Mata's presentation today: "I've already said we will be making changes, and Juan's the first.

"It's both [rebuilding and record signings]. We'll be looking to do both as part of our rebuilding process going on. There'll be more players like Juan in the future I have no doubt about that."

Mata, who had been unhappy with his lack of game time at Chelsea in Jose Mourinho's return spell, has been given the number eight shirt at Manchester United.

The deal until 2018 has come amid much fanfare, while Moyes could only thank his good fortune after a summer that saw Marouane Fellaini become the only signing of note.

"I got wind of it a month or two ago that [Mata] could be a possibility," Moyes added. "But I never really believed we could pull it off.

"I'd been saying in all the press conferences that I didn't think we'd get a chance to do much business in January. I didn't think the players we'd be interested in would be available.

"But when we got a sniff that there's chance Juan could be available, we went after it right away."
