Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that while the Premier League title race is open, it is Chelsea's to lose on account of them sitting top of the pile.

Wenger's men have enjoyed extended periods as league leaders this season, but Chelsea have now taken the lead and boast a one-point advantage over the Gunners, who sit second, and three over third-placed Manchester City.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has consistently tried to paint his team as outsiders, dubbing them a "little horse" – but Wenger is having none of that.

The Arsenal boss told a press conference: "The title race is very open, only Chelsea can lose it now because they are in front."

But Wenger is not taking the Mourinho approach and admits Arsenal are firmly in the mix.

"If you declare yourself not in the title race, you cannot lose it. But I say yes, we are in it."

The Premier League takes a break this weekend with the return of the FA Cup.

Wenger's Arsenal host Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and will bid to erase memories of last weekend's 5-1 defeat to the Reds at Anfield, while staying in the mix for another trophy as they seek to win their first silverware since 2005.
