Palermo are losing interest in their pursuit of out-of-favour Arsenal forward Joel Campbell.

Club president Maurizio Zamparini arrived in England last month to agree a deal with Arsenal for Campbell, but failed to find a breakthrough in negotiations.

Initially wanting to take him on loan, Palermo even agreed to sign the Costa Rican on a permanent transfer and were ready to offer €7m for the player.

However, Arsenal are asking for a fee of around €9m to €10m and the Sicilian club are unwilling to offer such a figure for a player who only has a year left on his contract.

According to Italian daily Tuttosport, Zamparini is losing interest in Campbell and could abandon the idea of taking the forward to Italy this summer in the next few days.

The Palermo supremo feels Arsenal are demanding an unreasonable fee for a fringe player, whom they want to offload during the current transfer window.

The current logjam in negotiations is also believed to be a source of frustration for the player himself who is looking to play regular first team football in the upcoming campaign.

Campbell is unlikely to play too much football at Arsenal next season because of the options that Arsene Wenger has in attack.
