Polish FA chief Zibi Boniek feels that there is still a chance that Wojciech Szczesny might extend his loan stay at Roma for one more season.

The Pole joined the Giallorossi from Arsenal last summer on a season-long loan deal, and has been one of the most consistent performers for the club this season.

While Szczesny is enjoying playing regular football at the Stadio Olimpico, he has remained coy on his future and has rarely given any indication that he will stay at Roma beyond the end of the campaign.

Boniek insisted that he doesn’t like getting involved with the club career of national team players, but revealed that the Pole is happy at Roma and wants to do well for the club in this season’s Champions League.

While he admits that Szczesny wants to return to Arsenal, he admits that Petr Cech’s form must be taken into consideration and believes that there is a chance that the Pole could stay at Roma for one more season.

Speaking to Centro Suono Sport, the Polish FA chief explained: “I never meddle with the careers of the national team players, so I don’t want to talk much about Szczesny’s future.

“Every time I spoke with him, he told me that he is happy in the Italian capital; his only thought is to do well with Roma and move forward with them in the Champions League.

“I know for a fact that if he is not bought by Roma his dream is to return to Arsenal as their number one goalkeeper, but Cech is already doing well, so it is difficult to guess.

“Many Premier League clubs are also interested, but there might be another year on loan at Roma for him, perhaps after signing an extension with Arsenal.”

The 25-year-old shot-stopper has made 26 appearances for Roma this season and has six clean sheets under his belt.
