Following weeks of speculation over their interest in the midfielder, Liverpool finalised an agreement with Bayern Munich on Thursday for the signature of the 29-year-old Spaniard.

Jurgen Klopp pushed the club to get the deal done despite Liverpool’s reservations over his age and a deal worth €30m was agreed between the two clubs.

The midfielder has agreed on personal terms with Liverpool as well and is expected to be in England today to finalise the last details and sign a four-year contract with the Reds.

Ahead of moving to Anfield, Thiago posted an emotional message on social media to thank Bayern Munich, where he spent seven years and won seven league titles and a Champions League, amongst various other honours.

He posted a video on Twitter and wrote: “Forever grateful to Bayern Munich.

“Bavaria will always be a piece of home for me.”

Klopp believes Thiago’s vision and passing range will add a different dimension to Liverpool’s workmanlike midfield.

He will wear the number 6 shirt.
