Lennon has been edging closer to the sack at Celtic, with the fans mounting pressure on the board to act and show the manager the door following their loss to Ross County on Sunday.

Celtic have won just twice in their last ten games in all competitions and have fallen eleven points behind Rangers in the title race while playing two games fewer than their Glasgow rivals.

However, Rough is not sure that changing the manager would help Celtic’s cause as there is no evidence to suggest that the players who have let down Lennon would suddenly start playing well for the new man.

He stressed that it cannot be suggested that a new manager would come in and suddenly turn things around at Celtic.

Rough said on PLZ Soccer: “The ironic thing about the whole thing is that whoever comes in, has got the same bunch of players.

“If that same bunch of players cannot do it for Neil Lennon, I don’t see it how they can do it for somebody else because they are so bad.

“We have seen it before that when other managers come in, it doesn’t instantly work so the board have a massive decision to make.”

Former managers Martin O’Neill and Gordon Strachan have been linked with a return to Celtic Park.
