Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a striker in the final week of the transfer window and Calvert-Lewin is one of Arsenal’s top targets.

The 24-year-old forward is considered one of the top strikers in the Premier League and he is believed to be open to a move to Arsenal.

It has been claimed that a move to the Gunners would appeal to his career ambitions, and Arsenal have not been deterred by his mooted £60m asking price.

But Everton are reluctant to lose one of their top players in the middle of the season amidst their struggles at the wrong end of the table.

They sacked Rafael Benitez earlier this month and are just four points away from the drop zone at the moment.

With no new manager in place, Everton are not in a position to let a player of Calvert-Lewin’s quality leave at the moment.

Everton are also under no financial pressure to sell Calvert-Lewin due to the backing provided by Farhad Moshiri.

Arsenal want a forward before the window closes on Monday but it seems Calvert-Lewin is unlikely to be that man.
