New Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has made two new signings this month and is keen on making further additions to his squad with a new defensive midfielder being a priority.

Gerrard has identified Juventus midfielder Bentancur as his top target in the remaining days of the window.

The Lions are in negotiations with Juventus but the player is yet to be convinced about moving to Villa Park this month.

Juventus are seeking a fee in the €25m range for the Uruguayan and are keen on offloading him in the ongoing window.

And according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, the Bianconeri are looking to snap up Nandez from Cagliari, but any move for him hinges on them bringing in cash by selling Bentancur.

If Aston Villa can convince Bentancur to join them and agree on a fee with the Bianconeri, it will also open the way for the Italians to try to sign Nandez this month.

It remains to be seen whether Aston Villa can get a deal over the line for the 24-year-old in the coming days.
