Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Southampton on Tuesday night means the top flight title race will go down to the wire and will go into the last day of the campaign.

Manchester City are a point ahead but they will need to match Liverpool’s result against Wolves at Anfield in order to secure a fourth league title in five years.

Villa have to host Burnley on Thursday night before the trip to Manchester but Agbonlahor is certain that Gerrard will reserve his strongest side to take on the reigning champions on Sunday.

He stressed that the Aston Villa boss’ illustrious history with Liverpool means that he would want to stop Manchester City from winning the league and help his former side to come up trumps on the final day of the season.

The former Aston Villa striker said on talkSPORT: “Some managers would treat this last game as you know what let me give few of the youngsters a game.

“But I don’t see Steven Gerrard doing that.

“I feel like he is going to play his strongest side, he is going to want to help out the team he loves and is a fan of, which is Liverpool.

“That’s normal, I’d do exactly the same.”

Manchester City will look to emulate what they did in the 2018/19 season when they won on the final day to beat Liverpool to the Premier League title.
