The Merseyside giants are struggling at the moment and have lost their last two league games, which has pushed them to ninth in the Premier League table.

Liverpool’s midfield have found it hard to get a grip on games this season and there is no sign that they could bring in reinforcements in the middle of the park in the ongoing transfer window.

There has been a call from the fans to inject some young talent into Liverpool’s midfield, but Lawrenson is of the view that Klopp cannot afford to throw in young players just like that.

He stressed that it is too early for some of the young players in the Liverpool squad to play regularly as it is only likely to stunt their development.

The Liverpool legend said on Off the Ball: “The kids – [Harvey] Elliott, [Fabio] Carvalho – it’s too early for them.

“It’s too early for them to play on a regular basis and you can actually destroy young players by consistently playing them.

“The idea with young players is to dip in and dip out.”

Liverpool will be in FA Cup action tonight at Wolves before taking on Chelsea in a big Premier League game next weekend.
