Caicedo was the subject of transfer interest from both Chelsea and Arsenal in the recently-concluded transfer window.

Arsenal made two bids for the Ecuadorian star, one even going as high as £70m, but Brighton turned down both of them.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was clear that Caicedo remained an integral part of his team and intended to keep the midfielder for the remainer of the season.

Caicedo was told to stay away however after a social media post where he made clear his desire to leave the club, amid a real effort from Arsenal to sign him.

Now, the midfielder has returned to training with Brighton and the Seagulls’ plans have gone exactly as they had hoped.

It is not clear whether the Arsenal target will feature for Brighton’s game against Bournemouth this weekend.

Arsenal might have been unsuccessful with Caicedo but they did manage a midfield signing in the window in the form of Jorginho.

With the Italian considered a short-term fix, it remains to be seen if they will go back in for Caicedo in the summer.
