Mount will enter the final year of his contract at Chelsea at the end of the season and there is still no agreement over a new deal.

The midfielder’s priority is to stay at Chelsea but their offers of a new deal are yet to impress a player who is one of the lowest-paid in the Blues squad.

Liverpool are one of the number of Premier League clubs who have their eyes on Mount but they have already done a good amount of groundwork towards trying to sign him.

And it has been claimed that significant discussions have already taken place between the Reds and Mount’s representatives.

The talks have gone far enough for Liverpool to start pondering over what kind of contract they are likely to offer to the midfielder.

Chelsea are prepared to sell if they cannot agree on a new contract as they do not want to sell him on a free transfer at the end of next season.

The Blues’ stance has further antagonised the player and his camp, who are now open to a move.

There are more clubs in the race if he leaves, but Liverpool have done the most amount of work for Mount ahead of the summer.
