Serie A outfit Monza are opposed to allowing Michele Di Gregorio to leave in January, amid interest from Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old has been a regular between the sticks for Monza this season, featuring in 17 of the 18 league games they have played in Serie A.

His performances have caught the attention of a number of clubs in Italy, including the likes of Napoli, Roma, Fiorentina and Bologna.

Newcastle have also been credited with interest in Di Gregorio, with Nick Pope out of action and Martin Dubravka having stepped up to fill in.

Pope, 31, is currently out for an uncertain period and the Magpies are keen on replacing him.

However, they may have to look away from Di Gregorio as, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calcio Napoli 24), Monza do not want to sell him.

Monza are firm in their view that they are shutting the door on a January exit.

It now remains to be seen how Newcastle respond to Monza’s stance and whether they move on to other targets.
