Ajax are not desperate to let Steven Bergwijn go in this month’s transfer window despite West Ham United being keen to sign him, the club’s acting technical manager insists.
David Moyes has zeroed in on the Ajax captain as someone he wants to bring to the London Stadium in the winter window.
It has been suggested that Ajax are prepared to sell Bergwijn for the right price, but the club’s acting technical manager Kelvin de Lang insists that the club are not looking to cash in.
He stressed that as the club’s skipper, there is no desire on the part of Ajax to push Bergwijn out of the door.
“He is our captain”, De Lang told Dutch magazine Voetbal International.
“You don’t want to get rid of him in January.”
West Ham are not the only side keen on signing Bergwijn this month with the former Tottenham Hotspur man also having interest from Saudi Arabia.
Bergwijn has netted seven times in just 13 appearances in the Eredivisie for Ajax this season, while regularly wearing the captain’s armband.
The 26-year-old has Premier League experience, turning out 60 times in the English top flight for Spurs, giving West Ham every reason to hope he could hit the ground running if signed.
