Celtic have blocked the exit of centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke, who was closing in on a move to Italian side Lecce, it has been claimed in Italy.

The centre-back has struggled to get into the Celtic squad in recent months and has played just one league game since September.

The Bhoys have been planning to move on the defender in the ongoing winter transfer window and Lecce were close to signing him.

It has been claimed that the defender was on the verge of leaving for Italy to complete a move to Lecce.

However, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the Scottish champions have blocked the centre-back from leaving the club.

An injury issue to one of the defenders in the Celtic squad has prompted the club to halt the Swede’s move.

Lecce believed that they had a deal in place to sign the defender from the Bhoys in the ongoing window.

However, for the moment, Lagerbielke is still at Celtic as the club assess the injury issue behind the scenes.

It remains to be seen whether the door for the defender opens again before Thursday night’s deadline.
