Newcastle United are not looking at Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes as a potential replacement for Dan Ashworth, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Magpies are preparing to receive a formal approach from Manchester United, who want Ashworth as their new sporting director.

Ashworth has informed Newcastle that he has received interest from the Premier League giants for a move to Old Trafford.

Newcastle are already believed to be looking at potential replacements as they are wary that the 52-year-old has already made up his mind to join Manchester United.

Hughes is a name that has cropped up as a replacement for Ashworth, but it has been claimed that Newcastle are not considering him at the moment.

The 44-year-old has been the technical director at Bournemouth since 2014 and has built up a good reputation.

Hughes also has a working relationship with Newcastle boss Eddie Howe as they were together at Dean Court.

However, at the moment, Newcastle are not looking at the Bournemouth man as the one who could replace Ashworth.

Newcastle are determined to not roll over and allow Ashworth to join Manchester United without negotiating an expensive exit for the 52-year-old.
