Scottish Premiership star Andy Halliday has insisted that he does not feel that Gustaf Lagerbielke has had enough opportunities to prove anything at Celtic this season.

Celtic signed the Swedish centre-back last summer but he has struggled to carve out a niche for himself in Brendan Rodgers’ squad thus far.

He has made just one league appearance since October and has not even been making the matchday squads for Celtic over the past few months.

The Swede is used as an example of Celtic’s bad recruitment last summer but Halliday insisted that it is too early to pass judgement on the defender.

The midfielder stressed that he does not think Lagerbielke has had the opportunities to prove whether he is a good or a bad signing for Celtic and pointed out that he has rarely played in recent months.

Halliday said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “I look at Lagerbielke, I feel he hasn’t had enough opportunities to show that he is good recruitment.

“We have watched plenty of him and there have been games where he came in and did well.

“But it just seems he hasn’t been put on the pitch over the last couple of months.”

Lagerbielke was on the verge of joining Italian side Lecce on loan in the winter window before the move was blocked due to injury problems in the Celtic defence.
