Former Celtic star John Hartson thinks that Brendan Rodgers’ team have too many average players who think they are better than their true quality.

Celtic are under serious pressure after last weekend’s results that saw Rangers climb up to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Rodgers and his players have faced criticism for their dwindling level of performance even if they are unbeaten in ten games at the minute.

The fans have criticised Celtic’s recruitment in the last two transfer windows and Hartson admitted that the new signings are just not good enough.

He feels that Celtic are carrying far too many average players who have been coasting along and are not as good as they think they are.

The former Celtic star said on the Go Radio Football Show: “[The new signings have been] nowhere near good enough.

“You can’t get blood out of a stone; you can’t make average players play like great players.

“Unfortunately, Celtic have too many average players right now who have been coasting and maybe think they are better than what they are.”

Celtic fans were left fuming after the board decided against spending serious money to strengthen the squad in the winter transfer window.
