Sadio Mane has joked about bringing Jurgen Klopp to take over the club he now owns in France.

Liverpool sold Mane to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, bringing to an end a hugely successful spell for the forward on Merseyside.

He has since headed to the Middle East with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, but maintains a close connection with European football due to having bought French lower league club Bourges Foot 18.

Mane is aiming to take talents from his native Senegal to the club and joked that he would love to see Klopp, who is leaving Liverpool this summer, in the Bourges dugout.

“France and Senegal, you know the history, we were colonised by France. It is a close country”, Mane told the media in Bourges (via Foot Mercato).

“This is one of the reasons that pushed me to France, but I am Senegalese. What is certain is that [a connection with Senegal] is the idea. Have an academy in Senegal, train young players there, bring them to Bourges.

“Maybe he [Klopp] will come here”, Mane laughed.

“He is someone who left his mark on world football and personally, he contributed a lot to my development.

“He is a great man, a living legend, who brought a lot, a lot to Liverpool.”

Klopp is being targeted by the German FA to eventually take over the country’s national team, but the current Liverpool boss is insisting on taking a year out of the game.

He is in the progress of building a house on the Spanish island of Mallorca.
