Atalanta legend Glenn Stromberg if of the view that his former side now have a 70 per cent chance of knocking Liverpool out of the Europa League.

The Italian side stunned Merseyside last week when they beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie.

Liverpool were heavy favourites to progress to the semi-finals of the competition but now need a minor miracle in Bergamo tonight to get through.

Atalanta are expected to do the job in Bergamo and go through but Stromberg insisted that the Italians must be careful as anything can still happen in football.

He stressed that Atalanta must still respect Liverpool but they should not fear them as they look to take advantage of their 3-0 lead from the first leg.

The former midfielder believes Atalanta are 70 per cent certain of knocking Liverpool out of the competition.

Stromberg told Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tutto Mercato): “It will have to be like the first leg as in football you never know.

“Many fans in recent days stopped me on the streets and in the shops of Bergamo to ask me if the semi-finals are a done deal for Atalanta.

“I think we should still have respect for Liverpool, we must always have.

“Respect must not turn into fear but courage.

“Before the first leg, I said [we had a] 20 per cent chance but now it’s 70 per cent.”

Liverpool have turned around ties at Anfield in Europe but they will have to do it tonight away from home.
