Southampton have submitted an official bid to Brazilian club Corinthians to sign their striker Yuri Alberto, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Saints are finalising a move to sell Carlos Alcaraz to Flamengo, a move that will earn them a fee of around £14m.

The money earned from the sale will allow them the necessary budget to invest in players before Friday’s deadline.

They have shortlisted yet another player from South America to add to their options in attack in the shape of Alberto.

The 23-year-old Brazilian attacker has played in Europe for Zenit Saint Petersburg and could make England his new home.

Saints have already sent a formal bid to Corinthians to sign Alberto.

It though remains to be seen whether they have adequate time left to conclude the transfer before Friday’s deadline.

Alberto, who has a contract with the Brazilian club until 2027, has scored 43 goals in 129 matches for Corinthians and has also helped set up 14 more for his team-mates.
