Newcastle United star Sean Longstaff has revealed what gives him the confidence to play in a star-studded Magpies midfield.

The 27-year-old central midfielder came through the Magpies youth set-up and barring a couple of loan spells away from the club he has been at Newcastle only.

He has played more than 150 Premier League games for Newcastle and still is considered a valuable player in the team.

The Magpies have the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock and Joelinton, and Longstaff recognises the quality of that midfield.

Longstaff, though, has featured 13 times for Newcastle already this season and the 27-year-old insisted Eddie Howe’s trust in him gives him the confidence to bring his strengths to a midfield full with internationals.

“The midfield group is really strong”, Longstaff told BBC Radio Newcastle about the Magpies’ midfield.

“When you look around it’s all internationals. It’s just about trying to bring my strengths to the team.

“I know the manager trusts me which is the biggest thing.

“No matter what anyone ever says, the fact he trusts me gives me the most confidence.

Longstaff has completed the full 90 minutes in the last two league games and he will be hoping to keep his starting spot against West Ham United on Monday.
