Struijk has been involved in four top flight games for Leeds this season, with Marcelo Bielsa opting to deploy him at centre-back or in the holding midfield position.

And Leeds have continued to put their faith in Struijk, with the 21-year-old being handed a new deal at Elland Road on Friday, that will see the defender wear the white shirt until the summer of 2024.

Struijk, who is determined to continue his development under the watchful eye of Bielsa, is of the view that Leeds handing him a new contract is a vote of confidence by the club in his abilities.

The Leeds starlet expressed his gratitude towards his club for believing in him and giving him the opportunity to live his dream.

“I feel super happy”, Struijk told Leeds’ official site.

“It’s always nice to be offered a new deal, it shows me confidence that the club believes in me and I am very happy.

“I’ve signed a four-year deal, so I hope to achieve a lot more and grow as a player myself.

“It was a big jump for me when I left Ajax and ever since it has been really good.

“Playing in the Premier League and seeing the level you are playing against has always been a dream and I’m currently living the dream.”

Struijk broke into Bielsa’s senior squad last season after arriving in England from Dutch giants Ajax in January 2018, and has since provided strength on the bench for the Whites, while stepping up whenever he is called into action by the Argentine.
