Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has admitted that it will be a surprise if Dan James gets fit for the final two games of the season, but the club are trying to help him recover.

The Welshman suffered an injury to his rib area during Leeds’ 4-3 win over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Monday night.

Leeds’ medical team have been working on the winger as he looks to recuperate from the problem and get fit for the last two Championship games of the season.

Farke admitted that it normally takes two to three weeks to recover from the injury James has sustained but he has not given up hope of having him fit for the final game of the season.

He admitted that realistically he should not be ready to play but conceded that it would be a good surprise if James is fit to feature against Southampton at Elland Road.

The Leeds boss said in a press conference: “Normally with this type of injury [Dan James] you are ruled out for two to three weeks.

“We still have a bit of hope. Our physios and doctors are working in the rehab to make him available.

“We try everything to make him available.

“At the moment it’s realistic to say he will miss the game, but it would be a nice surprise if he makes it next week.”

Farke will be without James when Leeds travel to Loftus Road to take on QPR on Friday night.
