Bayer Leverkusen will not be able to afford a move for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur target Riccardo Calafiori in the ongoing transfer window.

Leverkusen won the Bundesliga last season without losing a game and lost just one fixture – the Europa League final – in the entire campaign.

Xabi Alonso wants to bring in reinforcements to make sure that his team manage to maintain their high levels next season.

He wants to bring in a centre-back and Calafiori is one of the defenders the club have shown an interest in this summer.

However, according to German magazine Kicker, a move for the Italy international will be beyond Leverkusen’s financial resources.

Calafiori is expected to leave Bologna but the club want big money as they would owe 50 per cent of the fee to FC Basel.

Liverpool are amongst the most interested clubs in Calafiori, while Tottenham have been suggested to be ready to battle for his signature.

Leverkusen do not want to pay more than €30m for the centre-back signing and Calafiori is not affordable for them this summer.

That will boost his Premier League suitors as Leverkusen are out of the race.
