Newcastle are tenth in the league table on eight points but have only managed one win and drawn five of their opening seven games.

The Magpies have failed to hit the heights of the latter half of the previous campaign and they have struggled to get wins over the line in the ongoing campaign.

Howe admitted that the next few games are going to be key for his team but insisted that they need to take the positives from the first seven games and overreact to not getting the results they wanted.

The Newcastle boss said in a press conference: “It’s a key spell for us.

“The first seven games have been positive in a lot of aspects, but not points and the results perhaps.

“We’re keen to achieve great things but we have to not overreact and veer away from what we hope are a lot of positives.”

He conceded that players do miss the feeling of winning games when they do not get one for a while.

But Howe stressed that the energy around the squad is not negative at all and his players need to attack the upcoming games to get the wins on board.

“Players need to take from this they should never forget that feeling when you win, it’s precious and when you don’t win for a while, you miss it.

“It’s not doom and gloom but we have a drive that we need to win and attack these games.”
