Former Southampton star Jo Tessem has claimed that Saints boss Russell Martin is misusing David Brooks in the winger role.
Southampton signed the 26-year-old on a loan in the winter transfer window from Premier League outfit Bournemouth.
Martin handed Brooks his first start in Saints colours against Bristol City, but he failed to help Southampton avoid defeat on Tuesday.
Tessem, who was left unimpressed by Brooks performance against the Robins, pointed out the Bournemouth loanee’s lack of movement during the game.
He claimed that Martin is misusing Brooks in the winger role and thinks that the player needs to be more alive when the ball is on his side so that he is able to create room in the middle for Southampton to capitalise on the space.
“Little disappointing to see some players”, Tessem said on BBC Radio Solent.
“I was hoping David Brooks , I was hoping to see more of him.
“I think we are misusing him on the wing; he stands there, doesn’t he?
“But he has to do the job when he is on the wing though.
“He has to be high and alive when the ball is on his side and he was not and that creates less room in the middle.”
Southampton will take on West Bromwich Albion on Friday and Brooks will be hoping to put in a good performance to get Saints back to winning ways.
