Sunderland ‘may improve’ their proposal to Will Still in an eleventh hour move to beat Lens to him, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Black Cats made Still their top target and were confident until recently that he would take the Stadium of Light job.

French top flight outfit Lens though also want Still and the former Reims boss looks to be heading there instead of Sunderland.

The Black Cats are looking at other options, including St Mirren’s Stephen Robinson, but they have yet to fully close the door on Still.

It is suggested that Sunderland ‘may improve’ the proposal they have made to Still in a late effort to get him to pick them over Lens.

Still, 31, knows the Lens job is a higher profile position given the club’s Ligue 1 status, but Sunderland have been attractive for him.

He is keen to work in England, however Lens firmly have the edge.

At present, Still looks Lens bound, with Sunderland also showing interest in Bayern Munich Under-19s coach Rene Maric.
