Swedish Allsvenskan side Kalmar FF have vowed to keep a close watch on Liverpool youngster Taiwo Awoniyi ahead of a possible loan swoop for the Nigerian striker.

Kalmar saw Liverpool pip them to the signing of the youngster, who turned out for Nigeria at the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups before progressing to his country's Under-23 side at the age of just 18.

The Swedish side though, who are exploring a possible partnership with Liverpool, have vowed to keep tabs on Awoniyi's progress and say they are in touch with the Reds and the player.

Liverpool signed Awoniyi in the summer and then instantly sent him on loan to German second tier side FSV Frankfurt.

"We keep in touch with both Taiwo and Liverpool and formally he is on loan to Frankfurt until the summer", Kalmar sports manager Thomas Andersson told Kalmar 24.

It remains to be seen whether Kalmar will eventually persuade Liverpool to allow the Nigerian starlet to link up with the club on loan.

Kalmar have completed the 2015 Swedish season and managed to finish just one spot above the relegation playoff zone in the Allsvenskan.

Awoniyi meanwhile has played just once for FSV Frankfurt so far this season, in the German Cup for 18 minutes.
