Manchester City snapped up the Spanish defender from the Barcelona academy in 2017 and after four years in England, he rejoined the Catalan giants on a free transfer this summer.

Garcia made it clear last year that he was not going to sign a new deal and Guardiola was open about the fact that the defender wanted to return to Barcelona.

The defender stressed the importance of the Manchester City manager in his career and insisted that he only had good things to say about him.

The 20-year-old pointed out that the relationship between himself and Guardiola remained serene even after the boss knew that he was not going to sign a new contract with Manchester City.

Garcia told Catalan daily Sport: “I can only have good words for Pep.

“He knew about my decision to not sign a new contract, he accepted it and we had no problem.

“I am very grateful for what he has done for me.”

Garcia featured 35 times for Manchester City’s senior side and is current with the Spain squad for their European Championship campaign.
