Ashley Young feels Angel di Maria’s signing proves that Manchester United can still attract world class players to the club.

Di Maria joined Manchester United last week from Real Madrid for a British transfer record fee of £59.7m. He made his debut against Burnley yesterday.

"I think it makes a big statement to people out there", the former Aston Villa man told MUTV.

Young believes that Manchester United have proved their detractors wrong by attracting some top talent this summer.

"A lot of people might say we can't attract world-class players but we've just done that with the signings of Luke [Shaw], Ander [Herrera], Marcos [Rojo] and now Angel.”

The England international feels Di Maria stood out last season in a star-studded Real Madrid line-up and believes that the Argentine has already displayed why he is such a great signing for Manchester United.

He further added that there have been no problems in accommodating the World Cup finalist in the Manchester United team straight away.

"Angel is a fantastic signing. Real Madrid have other top players in their team like [Gareth] Bale and [Cristiano] Ronaldo but he's the one who stood out for me in that team.

“When you add quality to a squad that already has quality it can only help us. We saw in his first couple of days [in training] just how good a player Angel is and what we can expect from him. He's definitely a great signing.

"People will probably ask how he will adapt but he's fitted in straight away."

Manchester United are also expected to complete the signing of Daley Blind from Ajax later today.
