Mingi labelled it a good day at the office for his side and stressed that they came to the stadium looking to get the win more than anything else.
The midfielder shared that the primary message from manager Cowley was to just get at their opponents from the off.
Mingi went on to add that they knew that the Villans’ Under-21 side would find them hard to live with if they started the game brightly and backed themselves to put in a performance at Fratton Park.
“It was definitely a good day in office. Before the game, we all knew what we came here to do”, Mingi said via his club’s official site after the win against Aston Villa’s Under-21 side.
“We came out to win the game, first and foremost.
“To play as well as we did is an additional bonus.
“Just get at them, start bright.
“They won’t be able to live with us.
“It’s just about backing ourselves, being confident, playing, attacking, running harder than them, bringing our physicality because they probably wouldn’t be used to it, so that was the main message [from the manager] and obviously winning.”
Portsmouth welcome 12th-placed Fleetwood Town to the same venue on Saturday as they look to shrug off the loss to Kieran McKenna’s side and get back to winning ways in the Championship.
