Nottingham Forest beat off stiff competition to land the 21-year-old defensive midfielder from Brazilian side Palmeiras in January.
On Wednesday, Danilo scored his debut goal in Nottingham Forest colours to launch Steve Cooper’s side to a 3-1 victory over Brighton.
Laws pointed out that Cooper has faith in the 21-year-old’s talent as he keeps picking him over other players and admitted he has been waiting to see Danilo perform to his level for some time.
The Nottingham Forest legend noted that Danilo has not been able to play to his full potential thus far because of the opposition overwhelming the Forest midfield in recent games.
And he is of the view that in the second half on Wednesday against the Seagulls, Danilo managed to shine brightly by delivering a brilliant performance.
“I was sort of waiting for a performance from him in terms of, you know, having been in the team on a regular basis, which means the manager likes him”, Laws said on BBC Radio Nottingham post match.
“There is something right there and Cooper is obviously picking him ahead of other people.
“So that is another indicator for me; however, I have not really seen the performances because the midfield has sometimes been overrun, but I just thought this time, tonight was his time to shine and he certainly did in the second half.”
Nottingham Forest will be hoping that Danilo will be able to maintain his form for the rest of the season to boost their survival hopes.
