Former Leeds United star Aidy White has questioned whether Southampton will be able to sustain their form given they conceded three goals at home against relegation-battling Huddersfield Town.
Huddersfield were 2-0 up at St. Mary’s on Saturday before Southampton rallied to win 5-3 and keep their massive unbeaten run going in the Championship.
Southampton sit a point and a place above Leeds in second having played a game fewer than their Championship rivals.
Many believe that the last automatic promotion spot will be decided between Leeds and Southampton and White feels that the performance against Huddersfield should give the Yorkshire giants some encouragement.
Huddersfield have been poor this season and the former Leeds star is now not sure that Southampton can sustain their good form given they conceded three goals at home on Saturday.
White insisted that in a straight shootout, he would back Leeds over Southampton at the moment.
The former Whites star said on BBC Radio Leeds: “It gives us a little bit of confidence as onlookers and thinking, ‘hang on a minute, conceding three to Huddersfield?’.
“It’s a difficult one because I’d rather really look at what we do and you are speculating when you look at other teams.
“But it does raise a question, are they going to sustain their decent run of form?
“Obviously they have got a very good team and they are a decent club but I would back us.”
Leeds and Southampton will square off against each other on the final day of the season at Elland Road.
