English Championship side Ipswich Town have accepted a bid of £9M from Premier League club Sunderland for their promising young striker Connor Wickham.

The 18-year-old is expected to discuss personal terms with Steve Bruce’s side and could be a Black Cats player within the next day.

Wickham has been linked with a plethora of clubs during the current transfer window, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur appearing to lead the chase.

However Sunderland, boosted by the cash received by the sale of midfielder Jordan Henderson to Liverpool, are doing all they can to steal a march on their rivals and snap up Wickham.

The deal could be worth up to £12.5M with add-ons.

Highly-rated Wickham appeared for England’ Under-21s in their ill-fated European Championship in Denmark this summer. Stuart Pearce’s side failed to win a single game and headed out of the tournament at the group stage.
