Newcastle United have made a formal offer for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mevlut Erding.

According to RMC, the Magpies have made good on their interest in the Turkish international and sent an official bid of €7.5M to the Parc des Princes.

The Premier League side will have to wait to hear whether their offer is acceptable to PSG though, as all incoming and outgoing transfers have been put on hold until after the appointment of former Inter boss Leonardo as the club’s new sporting director.

And Erding’s future will be one of the most pressing matters in Leonardo’s in-tray as he settles into his new role from this week.

Under contract with PSG until 2013, Erding is not pushing for a move and is understood to be happy in the French capital.

Furthermore, it has also been mooted that the 24-year-old could form part of any PSG package in the capital city club’s pending swoop for Lille star Eden Hazard.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew however hopes that the club’s €7.5M bid will be acceptable to PSG and that Erding can join the growing colony of ex-Ligue 1 players on Tyneside.
