Ajax have dropped their biggest hint yet that highly rated goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg will be remaining at the Amsterdam ArenA next season.

Stekelenburg had been linked with clubs across Europe, notably Manchester United and Roma, but both the Red Devils and the Giallorossi opted for alternatives in the form of David de Gea and Carlos Kameni respectively.

And it looks as if the well of suitors for Stekelenburg has run dry this summer, despite Ajax placing a valuation of just €12M on his head.

"Maarten Stekelenburg will be our captain and Jan Vertonghen will be his deputy", said Ajax coach Frank de Boer.

Pressed on if there was any chance the Dutch shot-stopper could leave this summer, De Boer said he was not aware of concrete interest.

"I don’t know of clubs that are going to take Maarten, and we are very happy [about that].

"As long as he remains with us, he will be the captain of Ajax."
