Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of promising young Ivory Coast striker Souleymane Coulibaly.

The English club were desperate to win the race for the coveted 16-year-old after he showcased his talents at the recent FIFA Under-17 World Cup, scoring nine goals in four games and ending the tournament with the golden boot.

In so doing Coulibaly equalled a record set ten years ago by Frenchman Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who was quickly snapped up by Liverpool.

The youngster had most recently turned out for Siena’s youth team and had gained the nickname "the new Didier Drogba" whilst at the club.

Spurs have not disclosed the fee that was paid for the starlet or the length of the contract he has signed at White Hart Lane.
