Manchester City could move for out of contract German goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand, who has been spending time with the club on their US tour.

Having sold Joe Hart’s understudy at Eastlands, Shay Given, to Aston Villa, City boss Roberto Mancini is looking to bring in another experienced shot-stopper to provide cover.

And 32-year-old Hildebrand may fit the bill for the English side.

Hildebrand was at one point rated as the most promising goalkeeper in Germany, but his career has gradually slipped downhill.

After starring for Stuttgart and helping the club win the 2006/07 Bundesliga title, Hildebrand chose not to extend his contract and moved to La Liga side Valencia.

Following one season as first choice under coach Ronald Koeman however, Hildebrand lost his starting spot as the Dutchman departed and at the end of 2008 left Los Che by mutual consent.

The shot-stopper returned home, to Hoffenheim, but after two years at the club switched to Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon. There things did not go to plan, with just three appearances in a green and white shirt last season leading player and club to part ways.
