Carlos Vela looks closer to moving on loan to Spanish side Real Sociedad, leaving Ligue 1 club Lorient disappointed.

The Mexican had interested Lorient, who were keen to take him on loan from Arsenal for next season, but Spain, where Vela has played his football on loan before, is looking a more likely destination.

And it is Real Sociedad who are ahead in the race, although there has also been interest from Real Zaragoza.

At Real Sociedad, Vela would play under French manager Philippe Montainer, who believes the Mexican can add a little extra to the club’s forward line.

Vela was hoping to spend the coming season fighting for a spot in the first team at Arsenal and his agent had previously spoken with confidence over how he believed the 22-year-old was going nowhere.

However, the forward does not look in Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger’s plans for the new season and with his Spanish passport quickly became a target for clubs from the country.
