Sources in France have claimed that Rennes have rejected an offer for midfielder Yann M’Vila from Arsenal.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to add to his squad before the summer transfer window shuts and has always been an admirer of M’Vila.

However, Rennes do not want to sell the 21-year-old and it is believed a bid of €20M from the Gunners has been knocked back.

The Breton club are concerned that they would not have time to replace M’Vila and selling the midfield enforcer at this stage of the season could badly impact their Ligue 1 campaign.

Indeed, the emphasis at Rennes is on buying rather than selling players before the transfer window closes and to this end the club are closing on Paris Saint-Germain striker Mevlut Erding.

Arsenal may opt to return with an improved offer and there is a level which, if reached, would compel Rennes to sell – €20M though is not enough.

M’Vila is one of the most highly rated talents in French football, but has been in no rush to move from the Breton side. The 21-year-old believes it in his best interests to take things one step at a time and will consider any potential switch carefully before giving the green light.
