Greek centre back Sotirios Kyrgiakos has left Liverpool for Wolfsburg.

The tough-tackling defender slipped into the German side’s sights after suggestions that Danish star Simon Kjaer could end up at Roma.

But whether the 22-year-old exits the Volkswagen Arena or not, Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath is delighted to have added Kyrgiakos to his backline.

The 32-year-old was taken to Anfield in 2009 by then-Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

Although initially brought in as cover for just £1.5M from AEK Athens, the Greece international enjoyed regular game time, especially under Benitez’ successor Roy Hodgson.

The defender had earned himself another year-long deal at Anfield due to the number of appearances clocked up last season, but now the former Panathinaikos star has opted for a new adventure in the Bundesliga.

Kyrgiakos has signed a two-year contract at Wolfsburg.
