Arsenal are keen on Marseille’s promising defender Nicolas N’Koulou according to sources in France.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is thought to have taken a close look at the Cameroon international during Arsenal’s two encounters with Marseille in this season’s Champions League and was impressed.
Wenger has been aware of the 21-year-old’s talents for some time and N’Koulou was on the Frenchman’s radar when he turned out for Monaco; the defender was snapped up by Marseille in the summer following Monaco’s relegation from Ligue 1.
Snapping up N’Koulou however will prove far from easy for Arsenal as Marseille rate the youngster as a star of the future.
The Cameroonian was signed to a four-year contract upon arriving at the Stade Velodrome and cost Didier Deschamps’s side €3.5M.
Nevertheless, Wenger has been encouraged by what he has seen of N’Koulou, with the ease with which the starlet has adapted to the biggest stage of all, the Champions League, confirmation of his growing stature.
N’Koulou has already clocked up 25 appearances for Cameroon despite his tender years and is a graduate of the esteemed Kadji Sport Academy, which produced the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Carlos Kameni.
