A 3-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday evening means that a win on Sunday against Crystal Palace should help them to book a place in next season’s Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have won four on the trot to give themselves this chance of playing Champions League football next season, which seemed unlikely even a few weeks back.

McManaman admitted that he is not surprised that Liverpool have put together a good run as the fixture list was kind to them and it was all about whether the players could cut out the mistakes they were making.

But the former Red warned the players against relaxing and conceded that all their form will go to waste if they do not get the result they need at Anfield against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

McManaman said on Premier League TV following the Burnley game: “It doesn’t surprise me that they have gone on a run when they needed to go on a run.

“Especially with the run of fixtures they had.

“We know Manchester United away on paper was a hard one, but when you looked at all the other fixtures you fancied them to win if they clicked into gear and stopped making mistakes.

“And they have gone and done that.

“They just need to finish it off on Sunday. It’s pointless getting this far, playing so well and then blowing it in the last game of the season at home.

“So they need to finish it off and then you can rightly applaud them.”

Leicester will hope either Chelsea or Liverpool drop points on the final day in order to give them a chance to be in the top four.
