Graham Potter’s side failed in their attempts to land Nicolas Gonzalez from Stuttgart last month, with the Argentine forward joining Fiorentina.

Though the wait to make their first signing of the summer continues, Brighton remain determined to bolster their squad and have turned their attention towards other targets.

Now, it has emerged that Red Bull Salzburg’s 23-year-old midfielder Mwepu is a player of interest for the Seagulls.

The Premier League side are attempting to acquire the services of the Zambia international and are said to have lined up a move for him.

Potter’s side are looking to bring Mwepu to the Amex Stadium in a deal similar to Leicester City’s acquisition of Patson Daka from the Austrian champions.

It is claimed that Mwepu, who still has three more years remaining on his contract with Red Bull Salzburg, will cost Brighton a fee in excess of £20m.

Mwepu scored ten goals and provided seven assists from 45 appearances across all competitions for the Austrian outfit last season.
