Rangers are facing severe criticism following their 7-1 defeat in the Champions League at the hands of Liverpool at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

It was the heaviest defeat Rangers have suffered at home in their history and their performance in the Champions League this season is a far cry from their run to the Europa League final last season.

The Scottish giants sold two big players Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo in the summer and Walker stressed that their replacements are not of the same quality.

He does not agree with the suggestion that Rangers have a stronger squad than last season and pointed out that Giovanni van Bronckhorst was not backed with big funds in the last window.

Walker said on the Go Radio Football Show: “The message from the board is that this is the stronger squad [than last season].

“I don’t see it.

“When you lose Bassey and Aribo, you are obviously looking at the replacements and so far, I don’t see that same level of quality.

“You talk about money, but Giovanni van Bronckhorst said that there is no pot of money.

“There was little money to spend if any and I think he did want some players but he couldn’t get them.”

Rangers will be looking to bounce back with a win when they take on Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday and failure to do so will put Van Bronckhorst under greater pressure.
