Barnsley are keeping hold of Portuguese talent Fabio Jalo despite interest from clubs in the Premier League and Serie A, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 18-year-old forward is a player that Barnsley have been looking to keep at Oakwell, given he is highly rated.

Barnsley are now set to succeed as Jalo has reached an agreement to put pen to paper to a new contract at the League One side.

The Portuguese is snubbing interest from the Premier League and Serie A to stay at Barnsley.

Jalo is claimed to believe he has a better chance of regular first team football by staying at Barnsley and he will be looking to make an impact during the second half of the season.

Barnsley have already handed him seven outings in League One this term.

Jalo was an unused substitute on Friday evening as Barnsley played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with promotion rivals Peterborough United at London Road.

The forward, who will be hoping to be involved on New Year’s Day against Wigan Athletic, has been capped by Portugal up to Under-19 level.
